Bezzera MAGICA S MN with or (without) PID digital temperature control system

classic dual-circuit portafilter espresso machine

The Bezzera MAGICA S MN PID is a classic dual-circuit portafilter espresso machine with a robust Faema E61 brewing group . A portafilter machine for ambitious baristas who value professional technology and are unwilling to compromise on the preparation of all Italian coffee specialties. A perfect espresso machine for the home or small office.

Steam and hot water at the same time

The Bezzera Magica is a classic dual-circuit portafilter espresso machine . This means that the water circuits for steam, tea water and espresso are separate, and that the machine provides steam and hot water at the same time. The boiler volume of 2.0 l is significantly larger than that of entry-level portafilter systems such as the Bezerra BZ09 or the Bezzera BZ10. The large boiler produces a lot of dry steam and heats the fresh water for the espresso using an integrated heat exchanger. A thermosyphon integrated in the boiler brings the temperature in the brewing group to around 90°C through automatic water circulation. The PID can be used to optimally adjust the dispensing temperature. The system therefore provides sufficient steam for frothing milk and hot water for dispensing espresso at the same time. The pump pressure gauge shows the current pump pressure, so that the optimal brewing pressure of 10 to 12 bar can be monitored at all times. A second pressure gauge shows the current boiler pressure.

Craftsmanship & perfection from the Milanese manufactory

Bezzera is a family business that has been manufacturing high-quality, professional espresso machines since 1901. To ensure the proven high quality, all of the necessary parts have been manufactured in-house in the Milanese factory for generations. No other espresso machine manufacturer has such a vertical range of manufacture, which is also combined with great craftsmanship . For example, all of the metal sheets are flanged at the edges to create rounded edges. The Bezzera Magica S MN PID impresses with a sophisticated housing made of tempered ANSI 304 stainless steel, a boiler and pipes made of copper, professional tilt valves for perfect milk frothing / hot water dispensing and the digital PID temperature control system as well as the lever-controlled Faema E61 brewing group. The high level of vertical integration in the Bezzera espresso machine factory also ensures a long-term secure supply of spare parts, so that repairs are guaranteed even after many years of use.

The legendary E61 brewing group

Faema developed the legendary E61 brewing group back in the 1960s. The goal was to design the brewing group to be very temperature-stable and to heat it using the very hot boiler water available, without overheating the system. The temperature in the boiler is approximately 110-120°C, but only 90-95°C is needed at the brewing group. Faema constructed the massive E61 brewing group for this purpose, which is still used in numerous espresso machines from a wide variety of manufacturers today. The special feature of the legendary E61 brewing group is its direct connection to the boiler. The E61 brewing group is heated directly by the automatic water circulation via a thermosyphon. The thermosyphon and the surface of the brewing group ensure the desired cooling so that the brewing group does not overheat. In a separate water circuit, the espresso is prepared using fresh water from the large water tank, which is heated by a heat exchanger in the copper boiler. The solid construction of the E61 brewing group serves a very important function: It maintains a stable temperature and prevents rapid cooling during multiple coffee brews in a short period of time, or overheating during extended standby periods. However, to ensure optimal operating temperature, we recommend briefly "flushing" the E61 brewing group. This ensures that only fresh water is present in the system, and the temperature is stabilized – regardless of external conditions.

The digital temperature control system PID

The Bezzera Magica also features the digital PID temperature control system to optimize the brewing water temperature. The PID panel is integrated into the front panel and allows for quick adjustment. The PID precisely regulates the desired target temperature, ensuring the optimal brewing water temperature is tailored to the coffee used. This provides the barista with an additional control tool, similar to modern multi-boiler portafilter espresso machines . The PID brings the small machine even closer to the high quality and experience of Italian espresso culture found on large professional espresso machines used in the hospitality industry.

Conclusion

The Bezzera Magica portafilter espresso machine impresses with its meticulous craftsmanship, solid design, and high-quality materials. In addition, it offers a very fair price-performance ratio for a semi-professional dual-circuit portafilter espresso machine that simultaneously produces excellent espresso and, via the "Quick Steam" tilt valve, allows for the release of dry steam for creamy milk foam or hot water. The Bezzera Magica S MN PID doesn't need to shy away from comparison with its (more expensive) competitors!
